Billy Hall, PhD
Billy has a PhD in Global & Sociocultural Studies from Florida International University, where he studied how the racialization of urban space produces inequitable food systems. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Maryland's National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC) where he examined how legacies of institutional racism shape urban ecologies. Beyond his academic training, he has worked in local and national food policy spaces, from 2010-2015 as a member of the Miami-Dade Food Policy Council and in 2014 as a National Academies Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Fellow with the Food and Nutrition Board. Currently, he is a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow, working at USAID with the Bureau for Resilience and Food Security's Policy Division as a Policy and Communications Advisor.
