Javier Mejia-Cruz

Javier Mejia is currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Global and Sociocultural Studies. His research centers on to understand how politics of recognition, new forms of governance and extractivism intermingle in contemporary Latin America and how social movements create local responses to global economic forces. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies at FIU. Prior to joining GSS Javier was instructor at the Pedagogical National University in Colombia and was part of a group that led a project of intercultural education with indigenous, peasants and Afro-descendants.
