Medical Sociology and Anthropology, Race/Ethnicity
Nicole Mixson-Perez is a Miami, Florida native who is passionate about teaching and research. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida with a major in Sociology and a minor in Women’s Studies. She received her Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Miami with specializations in Medical Sociology and Race/Ethnic Relations. She is a PhD Candidate in Global and Sociocultural Studies at Florida International University, completing her dissertation entitled “Sizing Up Miami: A Multilevel Analysis of the Discourses and Politics of Obesity.” She is also currently a Visiting Instructor in Sociology at Florida Atlantic University. She is particularly interested in qualitative research that highlights peoples’ embodied experiences, interactions with the human environment and conditions of everyday life. Her work is informed by critical scholarship that reaches across disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.
