Bio:

My work focuses on the application of Ortiz’s transculturation as a theoretical framework and its contribution to the understanding of the construction of the Cuban identity as an ajiaco (Cuban stew). I expand the traditional applications of the theory usually utilized in the literature to understand the incorporation of the Indigenous, African, and European populations into the Cuban nation, to include the national experiences of other minorities, specifically the Japanese and Okinawans in the construct of Cubanidad (Cubanness)
