Applied Geographic Information Systems
The Applied Geographic Information Systems undergraduate certificate prepares students to perform various GIS skills, data collection, and data analysis methods. The certificate program focuses on practical applications of qualitative and quantitative research methods. These prepare students (1) to continue their education into graduate/professional school and/or (2) for jobs that require knowledge and use of statistics, surveys, GIS, and other research methods. This certificate program is open to degree-seeking students only.
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a set of computer hardware and software used to organize, manipulate, and analyze maps and spatial data. GIS is a rapidly developing technology that can be applied to many natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, and planning areas.

Applied Social Science Research Methods
The Applied Social Science Research Methods undergraduate certificate is designed to provide students with the necessary skillsets to conduct research across various social science disciplines. Applied social research skills — such as surveys, in-depth interviews, media analysis, digital mapping, data management and analysis and more—are increasingly vital to career options as well for graduate and professional training in diverse fields. Students will learn how to design research projects, analyze and interpret data, and present findings in a clear and effective manner. Upon completion, students are better prepared to conduct high-quality, evidence-based research in various settings, such as academic institutions, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private sector industries. This undergraduate certificate ultimately provides students with a strong and balanced foundation upon which they can pursue opportunities in these various fields.
