Study Abroad

Green School Semester in Genoa

Led by: Guillermo Grenier, Program Director

Immerse yourself in the vibrant port city of Genova, Italy—a historic crossroads of people, trade, international politics—while developing your Italian language skills and exploring the social forces that drive nationalism, identity formation and social change in Italy.  This program combines intensive language study with social science courses that examine ethnicity, globalization, and urban life. Engage with Genova’s rich cultural tapestry, from its medieval caruggi (alleyways) to its contemporary life, struggles and triumphs as a diverse, globalized city.  Reside in modern apartments in the historic Genoa city center and take classes at the FIU Genoa Center, housed in a 1,000-year-old medieval convent. Four courses (12 credits) will be taught by faculty from the Green School and the University of Genoa, with two courses in each of the A and B terms.

Of course you will have the opportunity to travel to other places in Italy on weekends and during Spring Break. The program includes visits to Milan and Torino accompanied by program faculty. Plus there are many spectacular places to visit along the Ligurian coastline adjacent to Genoa, a region known as the Italian Riviera.
