Nicole Werneck, GSS undergraduate student in the Anthropology track, and participant in Dr. Nelson Varas-Diaz's Visual Research Methods class, has had her film 'Cartas de Amor' officially selected to screen at Ethnografilm Paris, an international festival organized by visual ethnographers and academics. Ethnografilm highlights films that explore social, cultural, and human experiences through rigorous and creative visual storytelling. Nicole’s selection reflects her dedication, creativity, and the growing impact of our students’ work in visual anthropology.

GSS undergraduate sociology major and community organizer Jahnee Smith was named as 2024 Truman Scholar representing the State of Florida. The Truman Scholarship is awarded to students for demonstrated leadership potential, academic excellence, and a commitment to public service. She is only the second FIU student to ever receive this award.
