I am PhD Candidate in the department of Global and Sociocultural Studies at Florida International University. My current research utilizes a political ecology approach to understand the intersection between biodiversity conservation and Indigenous lands and life in southern Belize, Central America. I want to know what decolonizing conservation might look like in context of global commitments to double the spatial extent of protected areas by 2030. I arrived at FIU with a Master’s degree in Protected Areas Management and more than a decade of working experience with local and international conservation NGOs in Belize and Central America.
